Do I have to try out for XTEAM?
No, you do not. Our membership is based solely on "signing up." We will take the first 100 players that sign up and then close the membership.
If there aren't tryouts, how do you know if I'm good enough?
You are good enough. If you want to learn, to play and to risk it all, we will teach you the game. We do not guarantee that you become a blue chip player, but we do guarantee that you will smile and that you become the BEST player YOU CAN BE. And you can be good.
How many XTEAM members are there per year?
This year, we will cap the membership at 100. Because our services are extensive, this is the maximum number of kids we can handle while still ensuring the highest quality and best experience for all!
How do you communicate with the members?
We rely heavily on email, but our new system will provide each member with a login and entrance to our MEMBER website. This is where we will have all information loaded and accessible any time - day or night.
Are the events mandatory?
Nope. Like anything in life, however, the more you invest in your “game,” the better “player” you will become. Practicing helps you to develop the game you want to play, which is why we combine trainings and tournaments. We understand that you have other things going on, but we hope that you will maximize your chance to help you lax better and laugh more!
Will I miss any school for XTEAM events?
Only if you want to. For a few events, we offer training during the school days to maximize the weekend for all of those traveling and we encourage our players to attend SO LONG AS ALL ACADEMIC ISSUES are taken care of FIRST. Most of our events are in the summer, so missing school is a non-issue.
Can I play on XTEAM and another club team?
Yes, if the other club team is local and the owner knows you are also participating on XTEAM. If both club teams attend the same event, you must play with XTEAM.
What separates XTEAM and other premiere club teams?
Our training, coaches, curriculum, and attention to each member. And if you ask our parents and players, INDIVIDUAL EVALUATIONS. After every event, members are given a personal 1 page evaluation on their play... things they did well, things they can do better and WAYS to do those things better. The recruiting information is a huge differentiator.
If I am in middle school, can I participate?
Yes you can. You have to be currently in 7th grade to join XTEAM, which means you are high school class of 2015. You will, however, be playing up in the high school division in every tournament.
Should I wait until high school to join?
NO! You should join as early as possible so that you have more time to learn the XTEAM system that has turned so many of our good players into great ones! The longer you are with us, the more experienced and competitive you will be.
Are there practices?
Because we are not local, we elongate our big events into “camps.” We train everyone attending the event and get a LOT accomplished during these training days. Most members prefer to attend events where training and playing are combined. Training is INTENSE and members are expected to be in shape.
What if I want MORE XTEAM opportunities? More help?
Just ask and we will do whatever we can to give you more!
How are the teams divided for the tournaments?
Teams will be determined based on each players individual performance at the previous tournament.
When we see players practice, compete, cross-train and associate with their teammates, coaches and parents, we evaluate on which level we feel they should showcase in the summer. It is an open, honest communication and we are honest about the criteria that make up our placement:
1. attitude
2. athleticism & potential
3. lacrosse field sense & understanding of XTEAM primary concepts
4. work ethic & persistence
5. coachability & ability to execute direction
6. skill - ballhandling, etc.
What if I want to make the best XTEAM?
If you want to be on our best team, then you will have to display the skill, experience and desire to be there. Our coaches determine this. Each year, our talent pool is determined by those that register. While we have fielded strong teams in the past, every year is different.
What are the XTEAM primary concepts?
These are the elements upon which we base our player evaluations and track your success and level of sophistication as a lacrosse player:
•STICK SKILL - relative to the game: You may be able to pass and catch on a wall, but can you protect, deliver, feed and catch under pressure in a game? - that is what we want for you
•COLLABORATIVE BALL-HELP-SLIDE defense: The biggest focus of the TEAM OC is defense - especially at first - and there are many levels of understanding our defensive system. TEAM OC defense is a college-level and college-style defense. Understanding and being able to perform this defense well is the sign of a good lacrosse player
•OFFENSIVE MOVEMENT, freelance concepts: Clearing space, challenging to cage, give and go plays, picks and rolls, draw and dumps, sets and scoring plays are all a part of what you need to know to be effective at the next level
•TRANSITION, field vision: Filling the lanes, staying wide, anticipating where ball WILL be, giving the fast break texture, organizing a team unit heading down field - crucial to making ball move
What if I come by myself and not with my parents?
You will be a SOLO traveler and we will take care of you. Here, you are paying for our time and your protection. Hotel booking/fee, most meals and transport to/from airport and event are included in the SOLO fee.
Do I pay extra fees per event?
Well, that's a good one. Since the tournaments are INCLUDED in your membership fee, the only additional fees you are asked to pay are SOLO FEES. And that's only if you choose to attend the tournament as a SOLO! This fee covers (transportation AT the event, food, hotel and 24 hour supervision)
Are there any scholarship opportunities?
Abso-freakin'-lutely! Contact us directly.
How does XTEAM prepare players to play in college?
First, we coach you like you are in college already. Our curriculum is accelerated and we focus heavily on going at a fast pace. More importantly, we respect your time and try to make the amount of time you spend at XTEAM efficient and useful. Finally and most importantly, we require a lot of each member and those that get through our system are ultimately prepared and ready to take on college lacrosse. Members that have a hard time with the XTEAM system are also likely to have a hard time managing playing and studying at the college level.
Do you guarantee that I will get into the college of my dreams and play lacrosse?
Let me tell you a little story about . . . NO. We do not guarantee that. We do guarantee that we will equip you with all the information you need in order to navigate through the recruiting process. We guarantee that we will teach you the game and make you a better player according to your potential. We guarantee that we will be available to aid as YOU go through the process.
So, XTEAM can get me into college to play lacrosse?
NO, we cannot. There are MANY parts to the recruiting process and we help you through it. While we have great connections with college coaches, we have no way to CONVINCE them to take you unless you are fit both academically for that institution and athletically for their program.
So, as a member, I just have to play on XTEAM to be seen by college coaches and then play in college?
LISTEN, people: You must want it, put in the work and follow through. We are a forum for you to 1) get better, 2) have access to more information and 3) gain resources and support via our experience. Other than that, it's up to you. And, if you are not committed to the process as much as you are to playing or getting better, you will get lost in the shuffle.
So, I have to do all of the work and XTEAM will just be there to support me?
Yes. This is completely true.
What if I want additional recruiting services?
With your XTEAM membership, you get full access to our staff any time you need us. The members that use us the most REALLY get their money's worth!
