The life-skills part of the program is intense. The girls are put through exercises that allow them to look deep within themselves, not merely as lacrosse players, but as human beings. Those exercises taught my daughter lessons that every parent wants for their children – compassion for others, seeing their own inner beauty, and a genuine love and respect for those around them, to name a few. While my daughter possessed many of those attributes when she came to XTEAM, they blossomed into full flower with her XTEAM experience. So much so that when she got into the car at the end of the weekend, my daughter said she had found something very special in her XTEAM experience. Something that every parent knows is all too elusive for teenage girls.
She said, “Dad, I’m a happy person.”
It was a good thing I had my sunglasses on so she couldn’t see the tears of joy welling up in my eyes as we began the long drive home...
