BROOKLYN, NY // With so much history and pride in our members’ successes both on and off the field, XTEAM is thrilled to announce the official launching of our XTEAM ALUMNAE PROGRAM!!
XTEAM is a national club team for girls from “non-traditional” areas aiming to equalize the playing field through helping members to improve their game, prepare for the recruiting process and increase their exposure to college coaches. With the graduation of the 2011 class this spring, XTEAM celebrates 8 years – of uniforms, cheers, tournaments, opportunities and friendships. Because of increased alumnae interest in playing together again, the XTEAM ALUMNAE PROGRAM was borne.
The PROGRAM will be actualized with the inaugural alumnae game this June following a tournament for the 9th class of XTEAM – the 2012s – at the United States Training Center in Downingtown, PA. Other than the annual game, the program will focus on continuing to connect alumnae with each other as they figure their way through college, extra-curricular activities and post-collegiate job searches. “A person’s ties to their high school network slim down as they progress through college,” explains XTEAM owner Crista Samaras. “There is a precedent set by many colleges to establish networking channels during college, either by the school itself or clubs within the school. XTEAM exists as a strong association of women that, year after year, spent intense, quality time together. If there was ever energy to harness to help our former members pursue their future, the XTEAM connection is it.”
XTEAM will host a bi-monthly column profiling an XTEAM alumna and continuing using social networking sites to gather a working database to keep track of its members. New XTEAM Head Coach Liz Connelly drove all over the country (across, up, back, down) last summer to visit current members, connect with former members and get the word out to new territories. “I could not believe feedback from former members and their parents and the continued passion they have for XTEAM. People are jazzed about their experience – still. We have to connect these women – and their families – because they are doing amazing things.”
The networking began a few summers back, by accident. Each summer, as the new “recruitable” class heads into showcasing tournaments, Crista Samaras (the Head Coach of XTEAM since 2004) consults with girls on their college lists. To help research their schools, Crista will often connect them to former members attending that school because she has their cell numbers in her phone. “It’s a great way for the girls to learn about the school from someone that has been through what they are going through, someone who knows the rigor of our program and more importantly, the rigors of college – with or without lacrosse.”
Planned in conjunction with the final event called the “XPERIENCE” for the 2012 class, the alumnae game will be on Monday, June 13, 2011. Alumnae will be divided into teams, welcome the 2012s into the ranks and games will be played under the lights. “We want to give the current members a chance to see how things can pan out for them,” explains Samaras. “So many of our current members are hyper-focused on committing to play lacrosse in college because that is all they know. Through our alumnae, so diverse in how they have pursued and played lax since XTEAM, our 2012s will experience how many things they can do with the game – or without it.”
As an alumna, Kristin Lein (XTEAM 2007, USNA) represents the common quest of former XTEAMers as far as the XTEAM Alumnae Program is concerned: "I am so excited to be able to get back together with the girls from X! These are women who not only shaped my laxer lifestyle but also became some of my best friends. I cannot wait to see everyone again; it's been way too long!"
There is an XTEAM language members understand once they survive this program and the recruiting process. An ongoing connection to each other helps provide a network of like-minded women that can understand – and support – each other.
XTEAM will be looking to name an alumnae committee that will spearhead the effort, particularly this event. If you are interested, contact xteam@bouncentertainment.com.
When you’re an XTEAMer, you’re an XTEAMer for life!
